This part was so Bucky, just so, so Bucky, he’s like “yes, ok, your philosophical crap is cool and all but is actually not at all important to me at all.” HE DOESN’T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT IDEALS, NEVER DID, HE JUST LOVES STEVE, and that grim smile he gives at the end is just like he knows insisting on that is gonna hurt him but he’s so certain and OUCH JUST OW
So my sis and I were talking about the scene where Bucky is wiped in the movie.
His panicked breathing and how sometimes when his arm needs work he flashes and is back in that chair expecting agony. Steve was probably across the room and he heard the heart monitor picking up and turned to see Bucky’s rapidly rising chest like in the movie.
Tony pauses warily because ‘Tony vrs Metal arm’ is not a result he’s interested in discovering the statistic of so Cap takes a seat and tries to both understand what is going on, and also to reassure Bucky of his presence.

All day Sam had been warning Steve, telling him not to get his hopes up. Bucky might not want their help - might even violently reject it and if that was the case maybe they needed to thing about damage control of a more permanent nature.
But one glance at the lost look on Bucky’s face and it changes from “Steve maybe we shouldn’t-” to “Telegraph your movements, don’t startle him”
